The Landmark Tea is an annual event to recruit new docents for the Neill-Cochran House Museum and honor volunteers. Prospective docents will tour the House learning about its unique place in Austin, Texas, and American history. Four training sessions, including architecture, decorative arts, occupant chronology, and tour guidance, will be scheduled in the fall.
The Neill-Cochran House was built in 1855 by master builder Abner Cook, who also designed and built the Texas Governor's Mansion, and has been owned and maintained as a museum house for 50 years by NSCDA in Texas. The NCHM is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 2 - 5 PM and is the most accessible, least altered of Abner Cook's buildings (which include the Governor's Mansion, the Pease Mansion, Westhill, and Sweetbrush).

On July 4th, well over 100,000 people gather at Auditorium Shores for the largest Independence Day celebration in Austin ever. The Austin Symphony will be under the apt baton of ASO Music Director Peter Bay. The July 4th Concert and Fireworks features patriotic music and the ever-popular 1812 Overture--the latter punctuated by 75-millimeter Howitzer cannons, courtesy of Texas National Guard Salute Battery, and spectacular fireworks over Lady Bird Lake.
The Concert and Fireworks is free and open to the public. The Austin Symphony Orchestra will begin performing at 8:30 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m., ending at 10:00 p.m. Come early, bring a picnic, claim a grassy spot and enjoy the patriotic music of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Concessions will be available on site. (Sorry, alcohol and glass containers are not permitted in the park.)
